Welcome to our 2017 Outdoor Soccer Season

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

Programs run from April 24 until June 24, 2017

“Not every Grassroots Player is going to develop into a High Performance Player, but every High Performance Player will start with Grassroots.”

New for 2017

  • Team-Based Programs at U4/U6/U8
    • Based on feedback from our 2016 members, we have made changes to our grassroots program. The program is team-based program incorporating the long-term player development model with the game experience. Teams will spend 30 minutes on skill development and then apply these skills in a 30-minute game against another team from Signal Hill. Teams will have parent coaches and managers with support from Grassroots staff and youth coaches.
  • U12 West House League – a community based program for Tier 5/6 U12 level players – see below for details
  • Donate to Kidsport through Signal Hill Soccer – Help Another Player Enjoy “the beautiful game.”
    • We have partnered with Kidsport to accept donations through our registration website to Kidsport, which assists children with sports fees who would otherwise be unable to participate. Tax receipts for donations of $20 or more will be issued by Kidsport. We have many players at Signal Hill Soccer and West Hills United Soccer who are supported by Kidsport so please consider helping out!

U4 TIM HORTON’S Team-Based Program – Year of Birth 2013 through June 2014

Signal Hill Soccer is adopting the Canadian Soccer Assocation’s (CSA) Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model for the U4 Program.

  • Players will be placed on teams with a combined game and LTPD session once a week. Players will move from one skill-station to another  throughout a 30 min-long session, 10 minutes at each station, with the final 30 minutes of the session being a game against another team. Each station will be run by two parent coaches and a youth coach. This totals to a 3 to 10 coach to player ratio. In addition, each session will have a Grassroots Lead to help keep the session active and moving and will be able to assist any players or coaches that need help.
  • The program is built around providing a team-based active session that combines general movement activities, coordination activities, soccer skill and a full game. This will help our players develop well-rounded foundation skills in physical literacy, soccer skills, game play experience, and allow for more fun and love for the game as a major cornerstone in our program.
  • This program runs Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7 pm, Saturdays from 9 to 10 am and 10:15 to 11:15 am. Players registering for this should be born in 2013 through June 30, 2014. All sessions take place at the Sierra Morena fields by Westside King’s Church.
  • We thank Tim Horton’s for sponsoring our U4 program this year. They have provided the t-shirt that your child gets to keep at the end of the season.
  • Season starts end of April and ends last week in June with a Mini-Festival Tournament
  • Sessions are 1 hour in duration
  • This program is focused on fun, physical literacy and soccer skill development in a team-based format.
  • There will be no separation of gender for the U4 program. We aim to have even teams with the same number of girls and boys on each team.
  • NO CLEATS PLEASE, Shin pads mandatory

Volunteers

We need a small contribution of time from all the parents. Signal Hill Soccer requires that one parent in each family make themselves available as a volunteer for each of their children’s registrations. Please indicate on the registration which position(s) you would prefer to help out with. You will be contacted during the year to help out as needs arise.

Many positions require little knowledge of soccer. Some positions can be shared by a group of people. There will be full support from our strong group of existing volunteers. It’s a fun way to get out and meet some of your neighbours and to get involved. You will be working together, often in a team environment, with others who will help you out and explain the responsibilities in more detail. In the registration process, parents are asked to choose from a variety of volunteer activities.

Parents can also add $50 for U4 to U8 players, and $100 for U10-U18 players to their children’s registration fees if they prefer to waive the volunteering requirement.
