Welcome to our 2018 Outdoor Soccer Season

REGISTRATION WILL OPEN ON JAN 15, 2018

Programs run from April 21 until June 23, 2018

“Not every Grassroots Player is going to develop into a High Performance Player, but every High Performance Player will start with Grassroots.”

New for 2018

  • Volunteer Requirement Reduced for Grassroots Programs
    • Based on feedback from members, we have reduced the volunteering requirement for families for our grassroots programs. Families are now only required to volunteer once per family, rather than per child registered. As always, we encourage parents to help out with coaching and managing their childrens’ teams, as well as we need many volunteers for our year-end tournament.
  • Team Based Programs at U4/U6/U8
    • The programs are team-based program incorporating the Canada Soccer Association long-term player development model with the game experience. Teams will spend 30 minutes on skill development and then apply these skills in a 30-minute game against another team from Signal Hill. Teams will have parent coaches and managers with support from Grassroots staff and youth coaches.
  • Donate to Kidsport through Signal Hill Soccer – Help Another Player Enjoy “the beautiful game.”
    • We have partnered with Kidsport to accept donations through our registration website to Kidsport, which assists children with sports fees who would otherwise be unable to participate. Tax receipts for donations of $20 or more will be issued by Kidsport. We have many players at Signal Hill Soccer and West Hills United Soccer who are supported by Kidsport so please consider helping out.

U4 TIM HORTON’S Team-Based Program – Year of Birth 2014 through June 2015

Signal Hill Soccer is adopting the Canadian Soccer Assocation’s (CSA) Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model for the U4 Program.

  • Players will be placed on teams with a combined game and LTPD session once a week. Players will move from one skill-station to another  throughout a 30 min-long session, 10 minutes at each station, with the final 30 minutes of the session being a game against another team. Each station will be run by two parent coaches and a youth coach. This totals to a 3 to 10 coach to player ratio. In addition, each session will have a Grassroots Lead to help keep the session active and moving and will be able to assist any players or coaches that need help.
  • The program is built around providing a team-based active session that combines general movement activities, coordination activities, soccer skill and a full game. This will help our players develop well-rounded foundation skills in physical literacy, soccer skills, game play experience, and allow for more fun and love for the game as a major cornerstone in our program.
  • This program runs Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7 pm, Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:30 am and 10:45 to 11:45 am. Players registering for this should be born in 2014 through June 30, 2015. All sessions take place at the Sierra Morena fields by Westside King’s Church.

  • Season starts end of April and ends last week in June with a Mini-Festival Tournament
  • Sessions are 1 hour in duration
  • This program is focused on fun, physical literacy and soccer skill development in a team-based format.
  • There will be no separation of gender for the U4 program. We aim to have even teams with the same number of girls and boys on each team.

U10 SWL (South West League) Program Year of Birth 2008/2009

What is the SWL? The SWL is a U10 program which wasa set up to provide consistent days of play, limited travel, and focus primarily on fun and player development.  Similar to playing with the U10 CMSA program, the SWL has multiple divisions of play and allows the U10 age players to play on teams with others at a similar skill level. The CMSA teams play against teams throughout the city and on any day of the week rather than set fields within a set area on set days (Mon/Wed for girls, Tues/Thurs for boys) with the SWL. The SWL was also developed to accommodate those players who wish to have a season which ends in late June as SWL does, rather than into mid-July as the CMSA league does.

  • U10 teams will be placed in a league with teams from SW Calgary in the appropriate divisions. The teams play and practice on the same night of the week every week and will play all games in SW Calgary, within a 10 min drive of Signal Hill.
  • Season starts April 23, 2018 and runs through to June 23, 2018 with the SWL wind up tournament.
  • Six supplemental skills training will be provided. Sessions are typically held on Saturdays or Sundays and will be age-group based. The cost of this program is included in your registration fee for players in  U10 SWL.
  • SWL girls teams will play games on Monday/Wednesday and boys on Tuesday/Thursday. Practice times will be at the discretion of the coach.
  • Uniforms (jerseys) are provided by Signal Hill Soccer and players are not required to return these.
  • Program Cost: $225 before March 1, 2018, $25o after March 1, 2018

Please note that at U10, your player can choose between 2 different programs. The SWL program is an intercommunity league in the South West Calgary area. Participating communities are West Springs/Cougar Ridge, Triwest, Glamorgan, Calglen, Scarboro and Signal Hill. Games are held on days listed above and may include a limited number of practices and some technical sessions. Players who are interested in this program should select U10 (Boys or Girls) SWL program.

For those players that are interested in the city wide league in which your child’s team will play in the Calgary Minor Soccer League against clubs from all over the city, on any day of the week, our affiliated club, West Hills United offers the CMSA program with 1-2 games per week, 2-3 practices a week and a technical session. Further details on this program can be found at www.whusoccer.ca

U10 – U18 CMSA Program

 What happens after I register?

After completing your registration, you will receive a welcome email and then be contacted by your coach or manager in early April. Older players (U10 SWL) will receive a welcome email and also be contacted in late February with information on player evaluations. If you do not receive a welcome email please contact Chantelle Carley at admin@whusoccer.com.

Evaluations

Informal evaluations, in combination with friend requests, will be used in order to place children on the appropriate U10 SWL teams. There are no evaluations for U4/U6 and U8 House League players.

Evaluations are scheduled from March 4 to 21, 2018. The exact schedule for your player will be emailed to you and also will be posted by link by February 15, 2018.

If you are unable to make the allocated time for your age group, please notify admin@whusoccer.com. Please come prepared to play wearing shin guards and indoor running/soccer shoes (no outdoor cleats) and bring a water bottle. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your allotted time.

Coaches Clinic

We host coaches clinics for all coaches from U4 through U10 SWL in mid-April.
We encourage all coaches and assistants to attend even if they have attended clinics before as things change every year. The more the coach knows and the more drills that the coach knows, the better our program is and the more skillful the players become. Your coordinator will contact you with further details.

Refunds will be processed within 30 days of request.

 Volunteers

We need a small contribution of time from all the parents. Signal Hill Soccer requires that one parent in each family make themselves available as a volunteer for each of their children’s registrations. Please indicate on the registration which position(s) you would prefer to help out with. You will be contacted during the year to help out as needs arise.

Many positions require little knowledge of soccer. Some positions can be shared by a group of people. There will be full support from our strong group of existing volunteers. It’s a fun way to get out and meet some of your neighbours and to get involved. You will be working together, often in a team environment, with others who will help you out and explain the responsibilities in more detail. In the registration process, parents are asked to choose from a variety of volunteer activities.

Parents can also add $50 for U4 to U10 SWL players to their children’s registration fees if they prefer to waive the volunteering requirement.
